What is Becca's Cake Artistry?

Hi, my name is Rebecca Inglis and I'm a cake artist & cake decorator currently living and working in Pakenham in Melbourne's outer eastern suburbs. I specialise in wedding cakes and birthday cakes of all styles and I especially love doing novelty cakes and special event cakes. Starting in early 2011, I will be teaching a course on creating sugar flowers at the Doveton Neighbourhood Learning Centre and I am combining this with creating stunning birthday cakes, novelty cakes and wedding cakes for family, friends and clients. You can keep up to date with my training sessions by following the events page of Becca's Cake Artistry.
Wedding cakes are something that I love to do and as much as I love modern wedding cakes, nothing beats rolling up the sleeves and creating a stunningly beautiful traditional wedding cake. I think that's because it involves all of the decorating that I really enjoy such as delicate piping and sugar flowers. Having said that, I also enjoy the flexibility that birthday cakes give me, especially when they are challenge in a design sense like my "Left 4 Dead" birthday cake that I did in August 2010 (you can see that cake in the birthday cake gallery).
While I was at school I discovered that I loved to work with children and after finishing school did an Associate Diploma (Child Care) and began a career in that field soon after. It didn’t take too long for me to realise however that my passion was to have my own children rather than look after other peoples, and so I left the child care industry to start my own family.
I have always enjoyed baking and making special cakes for family members but I soon got bored with making plain cakes and after discovering fondant icing and all the interesting ways to use it, I started making birthday cakes and novelty cakes for my extended family and friends. It was at this time that I decided to give wedding cakes a try and I absolutely fell in love with the discipline of that style of decorating. It's not always the traditional wedding theme that I do either. Some of my wedding themes have included "black & white", "dragonfly" and "pink floral box". These days, the wedding isn't just about the main cake either. It has become a growing tradition to have a grooms cake as well, usually based on their favourite hobby, whether that is football, fishing or flash mob.
Whilst making birthday cakes for any family member who wanted one, word spread about the work I had been doing and soon I was making cakes for clients as well. At this moment, I am only taking 2 clients a week but I do have a view to expand in the foreseeable future.
On this website, you will find information, galleries and tutorials for my wedding cakes, birthday cakes, novelty cakes and sugar art. I have decided to keep my cake artistry blog separate from my website as I already have a number of people subscribing and linking to it.
So please, make your self at home and I hope that you enjoy both the site and your cake.
